Fads and Trends

Fads and Trends
Five Trends

Smart Phone’s
The first trend in my life and well everyone else I know is the smart phone, from the IPhone to Google’s Android and my favorite the Windows phone 7. The smartphone has made everything from staying in touch with family and friends to sharing a funny moment you just caught on video with the whole world by simply pressing one button.  Smartphones offer something for everyone and are expanding daily in their full potential.  It’s not a trend likely to be replaced anytime soon only improved or at least I hope so.

 Online Gaming
This trend started in my life back in the late 1990’s with a MMORPG by the name of Ultima online and is still as fun as ever. I’ve played almost every major mmo that has come to the market since then and plan on playing them till they are no longer fun to me. Along with mmo's I also enjoy playing first person shooters like Battlefield 3 and counter strike. I play online games because I find the competition in them really fun and I have also met some very interesting people over the years.

Digital video recorders
Ah the DVR most people I know have them and would not give them up easily. They make your favorite shows even better and convenient. No longer did you have to be chained to the TV on a certain date and time just so you didn’t miss an episode. The DVR made it so you could watch all your shows on your time and you could also skip the annoying commercials and replay your favorite parts. I use mine for all the shows I watch and don’t watch TV without it normally.

Vampires
Vampires are a big trend in America over the last few decades. The image and lore of the Vampire is everywhere from movies to video games and comics and everything in between. I have to admit though it is a trend I find very enjoyable from movies like The lost boys and the Underworld series to the Anne Rice books I have spent many hours of entertainment watching these blood suckers.

Reality TV
This is a love and hate trend for me, I can’t stand reality shows like The Real World and Jersey Shore but I like watching shows like Ghost Hunters and Dirty Jobs. Reality TV shows have always made me laugh about others and myself, I thought TV was about entertainment not about something we all do every day of our lives but here we sit watching it. As the years go on it is starting to look like they are running out of stuff to film that’s worth the time to watch but that’s just my take on it. I do have to admit it seems like a lot of the new fads and trends that have taken America by storm have been launched by the popular reality TV shows.

Five Fads

Skinny jeans on guys
This fad started shortly after I got out of high school and is still around. I don’t get it and I don’t think I ever well get it, I can’t imagine them being comfortable in any way and they look horrible in my opinion. They have gotten very popular in the Emo and straight edge styles of music so maybe I’m missing out on the most comfortable pair of jeans I would ever have the pleasure of putting on but something is telling that’s not the case.

Comic books
Yes I know for most people comic books are a way of life so it’s a trend in their lives but for me it was a short lived love affair making it a fad in my personal life. It started in the mid 1990’s after going to one of my cousins houses and seeing his collection after that it was on. For around a year and a half I was consumed by comics most importantly the Spawn comics but one day I woke up and the next shiny thing in my young life came passing by and I moved on.

World of Warcraft
Yes I to played WoW shocking I know you would think around 12 million people have played it or something. I started playing WoW shortly after it came out in 2004, it was really the only game I played for around 2 years after that just like almost everything in life I hit a wall. I had done everything the game had to offer up to that point and so I moved on to the next game. In 2010 I returned to WoW for another go at the game with its vast changes but after a year I grew bored once more and as of right now have no plans of ever playing again. It was a fun fad while it lasted in all my years of gaming.

 Paintball
Playing paintball was another fun fad for a few years of my life in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. Around 10 of us from my group of school friends played pretty heavily for a while in high school. We would all get together and go out in to the deserts around Las Vegas and use shovels and anything that was laying around to make our own bunkers and hideouts for each team. It was a lot of fun while it lasted but as for most things in life time moves on and so do people, it’s made a few memories of that time in my life that I will never forget.

Cows Cows Cows
Ok, so for this last fad in my life it comes at the hands of my daughter it all started with her love for cows. Well one day while I was playing around on the computer with her showing her videos of cows and other animals on YouTube. I came to a video called Cows Cows Cows it had a catchy tune but was kind of a strange video in my opinion but she loved it. Day in and day out she would ask nonstop to watch the video, it was cute at first but after seeing the video more times then I would like to recall I was happy the day came that she stopped asking for cows as much!! It’s a short fad that I will always have the memories of, oh and by the way enjoy the video…
